Asian American Heritage Month - Higher Education

Asian American Heritage Month - Higher Education: In this edition, Diverse focuses on Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month and examines the underrepresentation of Asian Americans in higher education leadership, as well as the origins of the Asian ‘model minority’ myth. The edition also looks at the creative ways in which some colleges and universities are dealing with the aftermath of Parent Plus Loan (PPL) issues.

In our Spectrum section, we profile James Madison University assistant professor of psychology Dr. Matthew Lee. As a graduate student, Lee developed programs to empower Asian American students. Now in his sixth year at JMU, he heads the Cultural and Racial Diversity Studies Lab which examines areas related to racism, sexism and transphobia.
